Researching and designing and RPG, what are some that you like and why?

Basically, just as title says. I like to dabble in game design, most of my games are in the same in-game universe and it's not a large leap to combine it into an RPG. So what are some systems you like and why? I'm leaning more towards simple and fast, rather than very complex. I am familiar with many of the big ones, wondering more about some lesser-known ones and why you liked them.

More like traditional pen and paper rpg (so, more a book rather than an RPG in a box sort of set up). All sorts of familiar with D&D, Pathfinder and the other big, popular titles (totally wanting to hear thoughts about those as well). I'm thinking more of smaller titles, maybe a game that's 100> pages total, simple rules/PC sheets or similar. Maybe games that use dice, cards, etc in innovative ways, interesting mechanics, memorable themes. Searching for avenues to investigate; not looking for a game to copy, more like "I played X RPG once and it used this mechanic/theme, I wish I could find a game that was similar.

There is such a thing as too simple and fast. Without a bit of depth, it gives little reason to develop characters, stick around and play.

The best option I have seen lately that is a great balance is Tainted Grail : Song of a Dying World.

Trophy Dark
Recipes on Kmiydish Paper
Good Society
The Shotgun Diaries
Risus

These are 5 TTRPGs I like which together demonstrate the breadth of different ways one can go within the paradigm.

System type, documentation style, distribution of authorial responsibility, the type of story they are designed to play, etc.

Bonus: Mechanical Oryx. Only 200 words; it's incredible, the experience the author managed to jam into that diminutive of a form factor.
