🏰 Keeps β€” An Elegant Microstrategy Game of Hidden Information and Medieval Intrigue

🎲 What is Keeps?
Keeps is a 36-card microstrategy game for 2–4 players set in the year 1345.

Players compete to build the most prosperous keep by making clever use of favors from four old friends while outmaneuvering their opponents through hidden information, card play, and careful timing.

⚑ Why It Stands Out
Despite its small size, Keeps packs a lot into just 36 cards:

β€’ Hidden character identities within player draw piles
β€’ Cards that move throughout the game
β€’ Deduction and anticipation elements
β€’ Variable powers through unique character cards
β€’ Fast 15–25 minute rounds

It’s the kind of game where:
πŸ‘‰ paying attention can be just as important as making the right move

πŸ”₯ The Hook
Each player's draw pile hides one of four possible character distributions:

β€’ The Count
β€’ The Fool
β€’ The Friar
β€’ The Mask

As the piles move around the table, players must keep track of where cards may have gone and decide how best to use the information they've gathered.

Meanwhile, Keep cards provide special abilities and valuable coins that can help secure victory.

πŸ‘₯ Game Details

β€’ 2–4 Players
β€’ Ages 14+
β€’ 15–25 Minutes Per Round
β€’ 36-Card Microstrategy Game

πŸš€ Why It’s Worth Watching
Keeps combines deduction, card management, and hidden information in a compact package.

The designer describes it as an "elegant" game, and the small card count paired with multiple layers of decision-making may appeal to players who enjoy strategic games that don't require a large footprint or lengthy setup.

πŸ’¬ What do you think?
Do you enjoy games where tracking information and reading your opponents is part of the challenge?

And what's your favorite game that packs a surprising amount of strategy into a small box?

I too like microgames. I have family that lives in the Northwoods and I often bring a few games when I visit. Small (or microgames) are perfect for this when traveling. This one looks to be an interesting candidate to bring sometime in the future.

Yes, I do enjoy enjoy games where tracking information and reading your opponents is part of the challenge.

The Crew is not a huge box (not a micro game), but has a good strategy, and one that I really like to play. Love Letter is fairly small with some strategy. It is good as a travel game since it only has 18 cards. Compile is also a good fairly small game.

I want to say that I played the crew a LONG time ago. Remind me how it plays?

It is a strictly cooperative trick taking game. A team works together (but each has a separate hand of cards) to complete a series of missions. The original one has a space theme. The second version has an underwater submarine theme. There is a family version (don't have it), and a new version that is coming out later called Journey to the Ends of the Earth.

Air, Land, and Sea is also pretty good with strategy for a smaller game.
