If you know me I'm a NERD when it comes to NOSTALGIA of anything from my childhood/teenage-hood, for example:
VHS Dice: Surge
VHS Dice: Plasmic Punch
Potato Head Ugly Sweater
Clue Mansion Sweater
So when I saw MovieDEX : Game Night for Movie Lovers it was an "instant back" for me, earning it the first ever
If you like movies but don't necessarily want to play the same movie trivia game every time, MovieDEX has a pretty interesting solution.
It's one deck of 120 real movies, but that single deck can be used to play eight completely different games. Pick the game that fits your group, learn it in a few minutes, and get playing.
And you don't have to be some kind of walking IMDB database to enjoy it. Movie knowledge definitely helps in some of the games, several of them are won by reading the table, bluffing, bidding, deducing, arguing, and generally figuring out what everyone else is thinking.
The eight games cover some pretty different styles of play, too. There are games involving bluffing, bidding, trivia, auctions, performance, and deduction. One can be loud and fast, while another can be slower and more tactical.
So instead of having a shelf full of movie games, the idea is that you have one box that gives you eight different ways to spend game night.
The core box contains 120 widely known movies, and each movie includes information such as audience scores, critic scores, and awards. There are also planned expansion packs covering RETRO, CULT, and FAMILY movies.
One of the things I really like about the concept is that you're not expected to learn eight games at once. You pick one, learn that one, and play. There's a two-page rulebook spread and short how-to videos to help get you going.
And if you're curious before backing it, there's plenty to check out, including playthroughs and other campaign information.
###
MovieDEX is currently live on Kickstarter, and the campaign has already passed its **$7,890 funding goal**.
The campaign is being produced by DEX Board Games, with manufacturing planned through LongPack and fulfillment through NextSmartShip.
If you're a movie fan, this one definitely has a different approach than simply asking, "Who played the guy in that movie?" for two hours.
Would you rather have one movie game that does one thing really well, or a game like MovieDEX that gives you eight different ways to play with the same deck?
BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A GIVEAWAY TOO!!!!
